Special Areas
Mrs. Teeters, born in Greenville, SC, grew up in Anchorage, Alaska, and returned to Georgia at age 15. After graduating from Evans High School, Beth attended the University of Denver, Clayton Junior College, Georgia State and received a B.A. in Art from Augusta College. She received her Master degree from Lesley University in October of 2008.
Mrs. Teeters began teaching art in Aiken County in 1988 and divides her time between Byrd and Gloverville Elementary. During the month of June she can be found teaching art camp for the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art at their outreach site in Columbia County.
Mrs. Teeters, along with Mrs. Mitchum, is a school coordinator for the acGATEWAY program. They target artistically gifted and talented students in grades 3-5 and help them prepare for their district audition. Besides indulging in all kinds of art mediums (clay, print making and mixed mediums are favorites), she enjoys reading and writing poems, and has authored a novel (yet to be published). Mrs. Teeters lives in Martinez, GA, with her husband, Chuck, children and a menagerie of pets.
Originally from west Georgia, Mrs. Mitchum earned her Batchelor’s degree in Music Education from Georgia Southern and a Master of Education from Lesley University. As a general music teacher at Byrd and Gloverville Elementary (for 21 years), she especially loves directing chorus and teaching Orff activities which allow all students to create, participate and perform. She has taught acGATEWAY for 15 years.
Her husband, David, coaches and teaches at Midland Valley High School. Their daughters are Anna Mikell (works for Augusta CVB)and Kate Mitchum (teacher, Byrd). Grace Fellowship is Mrs. Mitchum’s church home, where she plays keyboard with the praise team and helps with children and prayer ministries. She loves working with people, whether at school, church or elsewhere.
Mr. Carter was born in Wilmington Delaware. He recieved degrees from the University of Delaware a B.S. in Physical Education and the University of South Carolina an M.S. in Exercise Physiology. He has taught at Aiken High School, Leavelle McCampble Middle School, LBC Middle School and currently divides his week between Gloverville Elementary and Warrenville Elementary. During his years of teaching he has coached football, basketball, wrestling and golf. Mr. Carter has three children Christi, Ross, and Thomas. His hobbies are hunting and golf.
Maria Harden, was born in Chile, South America. She was studying Translating and Interpreting when she decided to come to the USA to learn better English. With the support of her parents, she enrolled in Chowan College in North Carolina. While there, she met her husband Richard. Together, they have two daughters Janet and Melissa. Maria began at Gloverville by volunteering for 3 years and is now starting her 18th year of teaching Spanish.
Reading Intervention- Ms. Rinehart
Carol Rinehart is the Reading Interventionist for grades K-2 and the Reading Recovery teacher for first graders. She is passionate about teaching young children to be successful readers and being a life-long learner. Ms. Rineheart grew up in Graniteville and graduated from the Univesity of South Carolina with a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education. Education runs through her veins as several of her relatives have been educators in Area 3. Her mother, Lynette Rinehart, is a retired elementary principal famous for putting Aiken on the map by gaining national recognition at the White House for Aiken Elementary. Ms. Rinehart has one daughter, Caroline R. Niland, who is a second year law student at Charleston School of Law.
Media Specialist- Mrs. Pinckney
Mrs. Pinckney is the media specialist for Gloverville Elementary School. This is her fifth year as a Media Specialist. She previously worked as the Public Service Librarian (4 years) and Library Technical Assistant (2 years) both at Aiken Technical College. She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina- Columbia with a Bachelors (BA) in Management Information Systems and Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS).
Special Education- Mrs. Goetschius
Mrs. Goetschius has primarily lived in SC for most of her life. In 2001, she obtained her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from USC-Aiken. While completing her teaching internship at Gloverville, she fell in love with the faculty, staff, and students. In 2004, Mrs. Goetschius obtained her Master's degree in Science specializing in Special Education. She received her Master's degree from the University of Tennessee. In 2008, she completed her Ed.S. in teaching and learning from Liberty University.
Mrs. Goetschius joined the Gloverville staff in 2006 as a Special Education Teacher. She is proud of her degree from the University of Tennessee and her blood runs orange. Mrs. Goetschius' parents live in Tennessee and she travels there often. She attends as many games as possible and cheers on the Volunteers! Good Ole Rocky Top! Rocky Top Tennessee!
Mrs. Goetschius has been married for three years. She has a step son and one dog. When not at school, Mrs. Goetschius enjoys traveling, working on the computer, playing with her dog, and spending time with her wonderful husband, family, and friends.
