Absence Policy

Under South Carolina State law, all students are allowed ten (10) absences for the school year. This includes Kindergarten through 12 th grade students. After ten absences, a medical note is required to excuse any further absence. A written note from the parent is required when a student returns to school after an absence.

Phone calls to the teacher, telling the teacher, phone calls to the office, or talking to the nurse do NOT replace the written note. This is the parent's responsibility.

An excused absence includes: illness of the student, death in the immediate family, religious observance, and a medical excuse from a physician/dentist. Other absences to be excused must be reviewed by the principal.

A maximum of two days of a family trip can be excused if the principal decides that the trip is educational and gives prior approval. A written assignment will be required by the student. (The request should be three (3) days before the trip.)

Days tardy are also included in a child's school attendance. First bell rings at 7:30 am and tardy bell rings at 7:40 am. Students attending Belvedere Elementary under special permission have more stringent guidelines to follow. If you have questions, please call Mrs. Eubanks, attendance secretary. Your child's attendance and days tardy are printed on every report card.
