SPECIAL SCHOOL PROGRAMS




Reading Recovery Program - The program was developed by Dr. Marie Clay and the purpose of the program is to reduce reading and writing difficulties in primary grades.

Child Development Program - This program is for at-risk children who are most at risk of failing first grade. The program is modeled after the High/Scope Curriculum.

S.O.A.R. - (Students On Active Research) This program serves eligible children from grades 3 through 5. The S.O.A.R program stimulates creative and critical thinking skills and strengthens study and research skills.

Foster Grandparent Program - The grandparents assist teachers in the classroom by encouraging reading and math skills. They share personal experiences and read books daily to the children
 
 

D.A.R.E. - (Drug Awareness Resistance Education) - A trained police officer instructs fifth grade children through role play to say "no" to drugs and alcohol in a 17 week program.
 
 

Doughnuts for Dads - A morning social for fathers, grandfathers or any male who influences a child's development, is held once a year. Parenting skills are discussed at this meeting.

Muffins for Moms - A morning social for mothers, grandmothers or any female who influences a child's development, is held once a year. Parenting skills are discussed at this meeting.

Looney Tunes Bank- Security Federal Bank conducts banking practices with fifth grade students and all students with parental approval can participate in savings procedures with the bank.

"Eagle Express" Postal Service- A program allowing fifth grade students to conduct postal service jobs for the school between the classrooms .

Premier Agenda Program- This program provides our K-5 through 5th graders with an organizational tool to encourage and enhance planning, homework, and communication between the classroom and the home.
