Kindergarten

Students in kindergarten are given a large Ziploc bag at the beginning of the year to keep their library book in. The librarian discusses with kindergarten students how to take proper care of their library book. The Ziploc bag is used to keep their book in a safe, dry place. Kindergarten students are allowed to check out one book during their library visit if they have returned their book from last week and have their bag.

First Grade

First grade students are allowed to check out one book at a time. Students start choosing books from the Easy section of the library and gradually different genres of books are introduced for children to check out.

Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Grades

Students in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade are allowed to check out 2 books at a time. Some homeroom teachers require their students to check out chapter books, Accelerated Reader books, and specific genre books.

Students are allowed to come to the library during the school day to exchange books that they have read.
