  MEDICATION

It is important that parents of students who have medical problems make the office aware of the condition(s) and note this on the registration card. If under exceptional circumstances, a student is required to take oral medication during school hours and the parent cannot be at school to administer the medication, only the principal or the principal's designee will administer the medication in compliance with the regulations that follow:
A medication form completed by the parent shall be presented to school officials along with medications in a prescription container labeled with the following typed information: student's name, name of medication, time to be administered, dosage, physician's name. Non-prescriptive medication, such as acetaminophen, may be administered to students with a completed medication form (medication must be provided by the parent). In the case of illness where a student will need to take medicine (prescription or non-prescription) for a short time period, a medication form must be completed and accompany the medication. The school asks that medications that are to be administered three (3) times daily be given to the child at home.
The school personnel shall: (a) inform the principal or principal's designee of the medication, (b) keep a record of the administration of medication, (c) keep medication in a secure location, and (d) return unused medication to the parent unless instructed otherwise.
The parents of the student must assume responsibility for informing the principal or principal's designee of any change in the student's health. A new medication form must be completed for any changes in medication.
The school district retains the discretion to reject requests for administration of medicine.
A copy of this regulation will be provided to parents upon their request for administration of medicine in the schools.
School personnel and employees cannot be responsible for the adequacy of prescribed medications or medical treatments recommended by physicians or related medical professionals and/or supplied by pharmacists or other sources outside the school district, and can, therefore, assume no responsibility for the effects of such medications or treatments upon students.
No medication may be kept in the classroom except by written permission from the principal or the school nurse.
All medications are to be brought to the office first thing in the AM. Medications will be kept and dispensed from the office or area designated by the principal.
