Brrrrrrrr! Cold weather has arrived in Aiken. The following are some ways to stay healthy.
Dress for the weather! During the cold weather please make sure children are dressed properly. Hats, coats, gloves/mittens help keep bodies warm. If your child is in need of a coat please contact the school and we will see what we can do.
Wash your hands! As we approach cold & flu season, please remember to wash your hands and cover those coughs. Germs are everywhere in our school and other public places!
Little bodies need rest and fuel! To help your child succeed at school, please help them get 8-10 hours of sleep each night and start the day with a healthy breakfast. If you would like your child to eat breakfast at school they must arrive and be in the cafeteria by 7:15. Many children complain of headaches and stomachaches that are mostly due to being hungry! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
Medication! If your child needs to take medicine at school please review the Medication policy in their handbook and remember the district’s medication Permission form is REQUIRED prior to medication being administered on campus. Medication forms are located in the office and can be downloaded from the bottom of this page.
No Permission = No Medication administration. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Fever! Students registering a temperature of 100.0 or higher are not allowed in the classrooms and will be sent home. Students MUST be fever free for 24 hours (without a fever reducer) prior to returning to school. This will help in the prevention of spreading the illness. Please do not give your child a fever reducer to mask a fever and then send them to school. This practice only increases the spread of germs.
Emergency contacts! Please keep the school informed of any changes to home, work, cell and emergency contact phone numbers. If your child becomes ill at school these are the only numbers that we have to contact you. Sadly, children remain at school ill when we are unable to reach the parent, guardian or emergency contact only because phone numbers are not updated. Also, please remember that only people listed on the registration card are allowed to sign your child out of school for any reason and everyone must show picture ID.
Keep up those healthy lifestyles by eating your fruits and veggies, dressing appropriately, exercising, getting lots of rest and sleep and let’s continue to have a healthy school year!
If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at 803-641-2580 between the hours of 7:15 and 2:15.
