  Title I Information-August 26, 2008

Based on the number of free and reduced lunch students we serve daily, Millbrook Elementary is a Title I school. This is why it is very important that you have filled out at least one lunch application form for your family. Because of our Title I status, we are given federal dollars to fund programs to help our school be successful. To decrease class sizes, we have funded a teacher in 5th grade. Our Title I funds also fund our Math/Science lab teacher, Reading Interventionist, and a full-time in-school suspension teacher. We also fund staff members to help ensure student achievement and success. As a parent of a student at Millbrook, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers and instructional assistants who instruct your child. Federal law allows you to ask for the following information about your child’s teachers, and requires us to give you information in a timely manner:
whether the teacher is certified to teach the subjects and/or grade levels the teacher is teaching,
whether the teacher’s certificate is a waiver or substandard certificate, the teacher’s academic major, graduate degrees, if any, and
the teacher’s certification area.

If paraprofessionals have been assigned to assist in your child’s classroom, you may also request information regarding their qualifications.

Our Title I/SIC council meets regularly throughout the year to help us meet goals to improve student achievement and continue to brainstorm new strategies to increase student success. Without the input of parents and community members, this would not be possible.
