We hope you find the information outlined below resourceful. The volunteer members listed below are happy to answer and address any questions you may have.
WHAT IS THE NAMS SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL?
The School Improvement Council (SIC) serves the principal and faculty of North Augusta Middle School in an advisory role, bringing together parents, teachers, students and community stakeholders to collaborate on the improvement of NAMS.
Three specific laws enacted by the SC General Assembly define the role and responsibilities of councils: the EIA in 1984, Act 135 in 1993, and the EAA in 1998.

*Note that South Carolina SICs do not have any of the powers and duties reserved by the local school board.
WHO MAY SERVE ON SIC?
Parents of NAMS students and teachers. We do have plans to evaluate student’s participation in the future. Community members are very important also. These members are appointed by the Principal, who takes care to ensure that these people represent the greater school community including non-parent taxpayers who have a special expertise or perspective.
The membership is composed of 2/3 elected members and 1/3 appointed members, not including those who serve in an ex-officio capacity. The principal always serves as an ex-officio council member. Ex-officio positions may include PTO President, Volunteer Coordinator, Business Partner, Teacher of the Year, or past SIC chair.
WHEN DOES THE NAMS SIC MEET?
