Gail’s Anatomy
Students at Jackson Middle School recently held several events to raise awareness and funding for ovarian cancer research. The events were called “Jackson Pink Out.” The literacy quest classes hosted t-shirt sales and chain link contests to raise over $1236.00. All efforts were in the name of former Jackson Middle School student and Area Five- Silver Bluff High graduate, Gail Mills. In February 2007, Gail lost her life to ovarian cancer at the early age of 30. Her mother, Debbie Mills, started a project entitled “Gail’s Anatomy” in an effort to remember and honor her daughter as well as bring attention to what is known as the ‘silent killer’ among women. After being diagnosed in October of 2006, her daughter lived just 4 months thereafter. A grand total check of $1236.75 will be presented to Debbie Mills at 8 a.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Jackson Middle School. The students with the highest total were Bridjett Guyton’s 7th grade class. Contact Debbie Mills at 803.645.2816 for more information on “Gail’s Anatomy” or the “Jackson Pink Out” projects.
