The
Aiken County Public Schools Retirement Banquet was
held Monday, May 10, at the Aiken Electric Co-Op banquet hall.
Aiken
High School culinary team members participated in Hospitality
Day at the Statehouse in Columbia.
Savannah
River Nuclear Solutions, Savannah River Remediation, and the
Medical College of Georgia introduced careers in Engineering
and Health Science to the students of Paul Knox Middle School
on Thursday, April 29 and Friday April 30th.
The
2010 Special Olympics was
a hit with all the athletes as well as parents, teachers, sponsors
and community at large!
January
is School Board Appreciation Month....
The
2010 Aiken County Spelling Bee was held January 25
at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts.
Twenty
four of Paul Knox Middle School 8th Grade Girls participated
in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Career
Awareness field trip on December 4th to USC-Aiken.
The
SC Department of Education held its 8th annual “Celebrating
Our Success” luncheon recently in honor of Adult
Educations programs around the state.
The
Aiken Performing Arts Group's program "Instruments in the
Attic" was recently recognized at Leavelle McCampbell
Middle for their commitment to supply all students with donated
band instruments.
The
Silver Bluff High School Alumni Career Fair was organized
by Mrs. Louise Dent, Career Specialist for New Ellenton and
Jackson Middle Schools, and Silver Bluff High School.
On
Wednesday, November 18th, Paul Knox Middle School recognized
National Career Development Day by sponsoring PK’s Career
Speakers Day! This year’s theme was “Bridges to
a Brighter Future: Inspire Your Career-Empower Your Lives.”

Day Celebrations.....
A
South Aiken student contacted country singing sensation "Big
Kenny" from the country music duo "Big and
Rich" to invite him to South Aiken High to speak to the
STAND club. STAND is the student group working for an awareness
of and an end to the violence against children in Darfur. Big
Kenny is a well known advocate for the people of Darfur.
Aiken
Elementary 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Beth Eberhard, was
pleasantly surprised at a recent school board meeting.
Savannah
River Nuclear Solutions presented a $20,000 donation to Public
Education Partners (PEP) members in Esther Blake's
first-grade classroom at Chukker Creek Elementary School.
North
Augusta Elementary School won the South Carolina award
for its "healthy school" initiatives and the Aiken
County Board of Education formally recognized the school at
a meeting recently.
The SC
School Board Association named Public Education Partners as
the 2009 Champions of Education. PEP Executive Director
Diane Mangiante, PEP's Chairman Tim O'Briant and former Chairman
Brian Tucker accepted the award from Dr. Frank Vail, a SCSBA
executive, and Aiken School Board member Wesley Hightower.
On
Friday, October 2nd, twenty three eighth graders from Paul Knox
visited SRS to explore careers in Law, Public Safety
and Security and Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.
The
2009-10 Teacher of the Year Banquet was held at Newberry Hall
in Aiken. The entire district celebrated a teacher
from each school in our county. Lisa Lader, German teacher at
Aiken High, was named the new Aiken County District Teacher
of the Year. She will represent Aiken County at state events
for the next year.

State
Superintendent Dr. Jim Rex visited Aiken County's Byrd
Elementary as part of his 2009 Back to School Statewide Tour.
The
Aiken County Board of Education members presented Warrenville,
East Aiken, and Mossy Creek Elementary Schools with their 2008-09
Red Carpet awards recently.
Over
70 new teachers to Aiken County were welcomed and educated
on various topics of employment within the school district.
