SC Quiz Bowl Champions- New Ellenton Middle

Aiken High and Aiken Middle earned the top spot during the
Aiken County Academic
Meet. Both teams were recently honored by the Board of Education.

Ms. Holly
Fulghum is a Cadet in the MVHS NJROTC program and has been
chosen as the
Outstanding JROTC Cadet for the State of South Carolina by
the National Society of the '"Sons of
the American Revolution". The SAR is a historical, educational,
and patriotic non-profit
corporation that seeks to maintain and extend the institutions
of American freedom, patriotism,
and the value of American citizenship.
JROTC cadets from across the state who compete for this award
are assessed for having a high
degree of merit with respect to leadership qualities, military
bearing and general excellence. As
the winner of the State competition, Ms. Fulghum will be entered
into the National Outstanding
JROTC Recognition program. The winner of the national program
will receive a special award at
the SAR's National Congress. Ms. Fulghum is completing her
Junior year at MVHS and will be
the NJROTC unit's Commanding Officer in her Senior year. Ms.
Fulghum is accompanied by her
grandfather, Mr. Tim Johann, and by her Naval Science Instructor,
Chief Petty Officer Horace
Sweat.

State Championship for the second time in 3 years. Team members
are Ray Scott, Rusty Scott,
Amanda Johnson, and Justin Williams, all led by Mr. Bradford

April Stratton, received a Gold Medal for her outstanding
presentation in the Illustrated Talk STAR
(Students Taking Action with Recognition) Event. April’s

Legion Auxiliary Essay Class I State Winner - Jalen Hallums
The American Legion Auxiliary essay written by Jalen Hallums,
a 4th grade student at North Augusta Elementary, won first
place in Class I (grades 3 and 4) at the state level. He was
invited to read his essay before the ALA assembly at the Department
convention on June 4, 2011 in Greenville, South Carolina.
