ACPS Technology Proficiency Guidelines

All certified teachers in Aiken County must demonstrate technology proficiency during each five year recertification cycle. Teachers must choose from the list below, but may only take the in-house hands on test to demonstrate proficiency once during their employment with Aiken County Public Schools.

Certified teachers include the following areas:

Classroom Teachers

Library Media Specialist

Special EducationTeachers

Child Development Teachers
Speech Teachers
Curriculum Specialist
Kindergarten Teachers
Adult Education Teachers
Teacher Specialist

 

Teacher Technology Proficiency as defined by ACPS, includes but is not limited to:

  • the command of fundamental computer operations and applications
  • an understanding of general technology concepts and terms;
  • the ability to use technology for research and communication;
  • an understanding of legal and ethical issues pertaining to computer use, such as how copyright applies to classroom software use, and what additional safety measures may be needed in the classroom;
  • the ability to use computers in a variety of ways to effectively integrate technology into classroom activities that support student learning.

Methods of obtaining Technology proficiency include:

A. Completion of a district approved technology course

Teachers may demonstrate proficiency technology by completing a district approved technology course. A different course must be taken each recertification period.

B. Transfer from another district
Teachers who have met the Technology Proficiency requirements of another SC district prior to employment with Aiken County Public Schools will be approved for ACPS Technology Proficiency as evidenced by the SC Teachers website https://www.scteachers.org/apps/mycert/logon.cfm

 

C. Transfer from out of state
Teachers who have met the Technology Proficiency requirements of another state prior to employment with Aiken County Public Schools may transfer that certification to this district. A letter of proof of proficiency from a district level administrator from the prior state must be presented along with the request. The letter must include the date that proficiency was attained and the method through which it was obtained…e.g. test, portfolio, class.
